Jeff & Meryl, 7.18.09

We just received an email last night from the incredibly talented Amanda Herzberger, of Orchard Cove Photography. She worked with Karen on Meryl and Jeff's July 18th wedding at the Jonathan Edwards Winery, and her photographs are simply stunning!

It doesn't hurt that the bride and groom encapsulate all that is gracious, caring, and sincere. As avid yogis {if memory serves me correctly, they're both yoga instructors as well - Jeff teaches to kindergarten and pre-school aged kids - how adorable is THAT?} it was important for them to incorporate that sense of peace and calm which defines the yoga spirit, and did they ever!

After the sweet ceremony, guests moved up to the Winery's tasting room for Cocktails and some fabulous Hors d'Oeuvres inspired by the couple's favorite foods - Peanut Crusted Chicken Satay with Indian Curry and Mango Chutney, Vegetable Samosas with a Tamarind Glaze, and Seared Ahi with Avocado and Ginger on a thin Daikon Radish. After the bride and groom were introduced and danced their first dance, guests were treated to an incredibly eclectic family style menu which included a Golden Beet Salad with Fresh Mint from the Gourmet Galley garden and Sugar Snap Peas we picked up at the Farmers Market. For dessert, they opted for an assortment of pies {!!} instead of cake, which Joyce lovingly made here in our kitchen with organic Agave nectar, as well as a selection of organic handmade chocolates from Divine Treasures in Manchester.

From the prayer flags to the menu to the incredibly gorgeous gown Meryl wore, the day could not have been more perfectly 'them'. It was truly a pleasure to work with such an incredible couple - they even checked in on us in the cook tent to make sure we were okay and that everything was going smoothly! Who does that?!

Namaste Jeff and Meryl, thanks for letting us be a part of your incredible day!

Hitched!

This past weekend we were so excited to see another of our Gourmet Galley family members tie the knot! Cousin Alyssa said 'I Do' to her sweetheart Gary, at a simple, sweet summer picnic at the local Elks club. With 200 guests in attendance and plenty of Sweet Tea Vodka and Lemonade flowing, the guests dined and danced the night away as echoes of laughter filled the air. In addition to some sumptuous Gourmet Galley fare, Alyssa and Gary hired the Pizzetta Pizza Truck to make a visit at about 9, and it was absolutely a hit! The truck is so cool - complete with fake tattoos and a photo booth which had a 'live feed' TV screen to show the hilarious shots being taken inside.

All in all, it was a fabulous night for a fabulous couple, and we were so honored to be a part of everything. Congratulations Alyssa and Gary, we love you!

The Best Thing 44 Cents Can Buy...

Upon a routine visit to the Post Office this morning, I was pleasantly surprised when the lovely worker handed me a book of stamps like no other. Have you SEEN these? They're so lovely! Lucky, lucky brides - now you have something sweet and pretty to adorn those gorgeous invitation envelopes. There is nothing worse than spending all of that time and money to create the perfect invite only to mess it up with ugly stamps! So, here they are. The perfect solution. Brides - go ahead and buy 300! www.shop.usps.com

Wine Woot!

LOOK what we FOUND!!!

This website offers consumers a fabulous weekly wine find at a discounted price. The catch is that they only offer one a day and once it's sold out it's done. They have some really interesting, esoteric selections which are priced to move at 'one-time-only' special rates. And, they don't limit themselves to just wine! They push wine tasting kits, specialty openers, books, and any other interesting wine accessories you could think of! The site also boasts a pretty serious blog, which features all kinds of info on the featured wines as well as tasting notes and generally interesting tidbits! The only stinker is that they DON't sell to Connecticut! So all of our more national friends can take advantage, but we are relegated to simply watching it every day and pining away for the awesome selections! Check it out, at the very least it can give you some great gift ideas for the oenophiles in your life!
PS: check out woot.com, the sister site which sells all sorts of interesting frivolities on a daily basis - from Star Wars Bobble Heads to super modern knife blocks. Genius!

An Evening to Remember

Wow, wouldya look at that PICTURE! Can we get more glamorous?
This week we are so excited and honored to be catering the annual gala for the Eugene O'Neill Theater in Waterford. For their 45th celebration, the talented minds at the center have chosen to honor the most impressive Dina Merrill, whose film and stage work has spanned decades. She has been a long time benefactor of the Eugene O'Neill and also sits on the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

This Friday's tented affair takes place in the gorgeous sunken garden, which boasts one of the most beautiful views on the shoreline. We'll be sourcing local ingredients from a few of our favorite local growers, and serving the perfect summer protein - grilled swordfish! We've been coordinating behind the scenes with Toby from Arrow Paper to make sure that we've crossed our Ts and dotted our Is, and it's sure to be a magical evening for a magical lady! The RSVP date has passed, but there are still a few spots available. To reserve your ticket, please click here, or contact Suzanne Hendrix at 860.443.5378 x 217

The Leader of the Pack

Last Thursday, in a sweetly simple ceremony at the New London Radisson, our very own Anna Lathrop was inducted as President of the New London Rotary. What an accomplishment! This follows not only a 9 year tenure with the club, during which she has headed up dozens of committees and initiatives, but also a 2 year term preparing for her new office. Two weeks ago, she attended the Rotary International conference in Birmingham, England, and sat in on workshops and speeches given by some of the most dedicated and accomplished rotarians there are! This year will certainly prove to be an interesting one for all of us here at Gourmet Galley as we watch our boss make some serious strides for our community.

We are so proud of you Anna, Congratulations!
